Events and Activities in 2018

38th ANNUAL LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE – March 23-25, 2018. YMCA Camp Harold Erdman, Waialua, Oahu. SG’s signature project convened 105 teens and young adults representing Hawaii (Oahu, Big Island, Maui), California (Oakland, Vallejo), and Canada (Toronto) to deal with topics and activities based on the theme “R.I.S.E. – Recognize, Involve, Strengthen, Empower”.

PARTNERSHIP WITH CANADA – Five delegates from Toronto attended the leadership conference to acquire first-hand experience for a similar project in Canada.

MALUNGAY FESTIVAL – April 14, 2018. St. Joseph Church, Waipahu, Oahu. SG program team and leaders organized this fundraiser and raised $349.38 selling homemade cookies, puto, and kettle corn.

BIG ISLAND CANDIES FUNDRAISER – May-June 2018. Board members and conference leaders raised $862.50.

GEAR UP MINI-CONFERENCE – June 1-3, 2018. YMCA Camp Harold Erdman, Waialua, Oahu. The 30 participants included high school students, leaders, and advisors.

FANHS CONFERENCE – July 11-14, 2018. Hyatt Regency O’Hare, Chicago, Illinois. Seven SG representatives gave a presentation about “The Evolution and Impact of Filipino Youth Leaders in Hawaii” at this Filipino American National Historical Society biennial conference.

BOARD RETREAT – September 29, 2018. Jose Residence, Honolulu, Hawaii. Attended by 17 participants composed of board members, program committee members, and alumni who reviewed and developed action plans for SG’s five strategic directions.

FILIPINO FIESTA – May 5, 2018. Kakaako Gateway Park. SG leaders managed the Children’s Village.

PAMANTASAN CONFERENCE – October 5, 2018. University of Hawaii at Manoa, Honolulu, Hawaii. Six SG representatives presented about how SG has contributed to the educational achievements of Filipino youth in Hawaii.

PASKO SA FILCOM – December 2, 2018. Fil-Com Center, Waipahu, Oahu. Conference program committee members volunteered to help youngsters craft Christmas ornaments.

FAUW – The Filipino Association of University Women adopted SG as their youth representation.

SG STORY PROJECT – In preparation for SG’s 40th anniversary in 2020, SG’s co-founders and long-time alumni have started collaborating to document the history and evolution of SG.
